Mother's Day Weekend

Hello friends!  I am doing a bit of a catch-up since I have not posted in several weeks!  I wanted to tell you about all of the cool things we did on Mother's Day weekend!

First, mom and I took a glass on glass mosiac mandala class!

We didnt finish the entire thing during the class.  The instructor told us to let the glue dry for 24 hours before we grouted it.... here is the finished piece:

And later that evening we went out to dinner and then saw Newsies!

It was a great show!!

The next day we went to Dallas to have afternoon tea:

We love having tea.  This tea was good, but not not nearly as good as the tea we had at Fortnum and Mason in London; not sure if any tea will ever live up to those standards!

After leaving tea, we drove by this:

It was a great weekend!  Did any of you do anything special for Mother's day?

Homestead Village

A few weeks ago mom came to visit me in Waco.  We decided to go out to this cute General store that I found while driving to see my CSA farm one day.  At the general store someone told us about a homestead craft village that was about 2 miles away.  So, we went to check it out.  It was really cool.

The name of the place is Homestead Heritage ( click that link for more information).  They have a pottery building:

Fiber arts:

A blacksmith area:

And the grounds are really pretty:

They even have an 1800s cabin:

They offer different classes too: woodworking, pottery, fiber arts, gardening/cooking, and blacksmithing.  It was a nice day.  I definitely recommend this place if you are in the Waco area.

Printmaking Class

About a month ago I went to Austin to take a monotype printmaking class at Flat Bed Press.  It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot.  Here are some pictures from the class:

This was the only print I made using this technique.. I was just playing for a few minutes before class ended

I really liked this class a lot.  Printmaking is fun - if you are considering a class then I totally suggest it.  No classes around?  Get yourself a Gelli plate or make a gelatin bold and do some printmaking at home!!  Come back tomorrow to see what I did with these prints!

Hello friends!  I am very excited to announce to you that I will be an instructor for this summer's 6 Degrees of Creativity Workshops!

Screen-printing Class

One of the things that has been keeping me busy is that I have been taking art classes here and there around Texas.  One of the first classes I took was Screen Printing in Austin at Jerry's Artarama.  Here are some photos from the class....

 My screen (it has two designs).. before I printed with it for the first time... the pink stuff is ink, you know I had to get hot pink ink!!

 I made a lot of prints...they were all over the place:

 And some t-shirts... one design you can see in the picture above, hanging on the back of the chair.  The other is here below:

 Printing on shirts is harder than you might think!  I also made some prints in my art journal to document the process:

 And here is all of the supplies that I left the store with .... I only need to get one more thing and I can print from home, including making new screens!!  I really want to try it but I have not yet had a chance to get that last piece which is the base board that you attach the screen to (temporarily) for printing.
